KiVA Challenge – Terms and Conditions
The KiVA Challenge (the “Contest”) is run by researchers affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley and Google DeepMind (GDM). To enter this Contest, you must read and agree to these terms and conditions (“Terms”). By entering the Contest, you agree that these Terms will apply to you. Throughout these Terms, “you” means you individually, or your team, as applicable.
Eligibility
To participate in the Contest you must:
- Be at least 18 years old; and
- Not be:
- Prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs from participating in the Contest; or
- A wholly or partially state-owned entity or an employee of the government or of a government-controlled entity.
All determinations of eligibility will be made at GDM & KiVA organizers' sole and absolute discretion. The KiVA organizers reserve the right to verify eligibility and to adjudicate on any related dispute at any time. No correspondence will be entered into.
How to Participate
- Create an account on the Eval.ai platform.
- Download the challenge data for the different challenge tracks indicated in each track.
- Run your model to obtain predictions for each task included in the challenge track.
- Upload your results on the challenge page for the validation and/or test phases. Note that only public submissions for the test phase are considered for the final competition.
- Include an email address with your submission in the test phase.
- To be eligible for the awards, you must submit a 2-page report in the test phase to ey242@berkeley.edu, describing the model you used to obtain the predictions.
- All competitors must follow the system and question prompts outlined in the trials.
- All data provided through the registration process must be complete and correct.
Key Dates
The validation phase for all the challenge tracks begins in June 2025. The test phase begins at 12:00am GMT on 10 July 2025 and ends at 11:59pm GMT on 10 October 2025 (Contest Period).
Determining the Winners
Up to 4 winners will be selected by the KiVA organizers, based on the results obtained by the competitors.
Prizes
- Up to 4 prizes—each valued at up to $1,000—will be awarded.
- The prizes will be awarded at the Third Perception Test Challenge workshop organised as a satellite event to the ICCV conference in Hawaii in October 2025.
- Winners will present their methods in the workshop, in person or online if they cannot join in person.
- Prizes cannot be awarded to competitors who are:
- Residents of, or ordinarily resident in, a US embargoed country; or
- Immediate colleagues and family members of the KiVA organizers.
- Prizes will be awarded to winners by the Google–Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research Commons Grant.
- All decisions by the KiVA organizers regarding Prize winners are final.
Notification of Winners and Winners’ Obligations
If you are a winner, the KiVA organizers will notify you by sending an email to the address you provided on entry to the test phase. The organizers are not responsible for lost, late, or damaged entries, or for technical malfunctions of any kind impacting the entries. Entries are void if they are in whole or in part incomprehensible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error, forged, mechanically reproduced or obtained through fraud or theft.
The KiVA organizers and GDM will not be liable for unsuccessful efforts to notify you. If you decline a Prize, do not respond within 7 days, fail to claim the Prize in the manner specified, are unavailable for Prize fulfillment, fail to abide by these Terms or are ineligible, GDM may select an alternative winner from remaining participants.
If you win a Prize, you are solely responsible for complying with any applicable tax laws and filing requirements.
Privacy
You acknowledge that the organizers may collect, store, share and otherwise use personally identifiable information provided during registration. Your information may be transferred to countries outside your country of residence. You have the right to request access, review, rectification or deletion of any personal data by writing to ey242@berkeley.edu.
Intellectual Property Rights
Any intellectual property rights of GDM and KiVA organizers included on this website are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. See https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0. Except as required by law or agreed in writing, software under the License is distributed on an “AS IS” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND.
Any intellectual property rights in your submitted content are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. You confirm you have the rights to your entry, that it is original, and not copied. You will not use GDM trademarks or visual identity in any way implying affiliation or endorsement without permission.
Right To Cancel, Modify Or Disqualify
If for any reason outside the GDM’s and KiVA organizers’ control the Contest cannot run as planned, GDM may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend it. GDM may disqualify any participant who tampers with the process, whose conduct is contrary to the spirit of the rules, or entries affected by material errors.
Limitation of Liability & Disclaimer of Warranties
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits GDM’s and KiVA organizers’ liability for:
- Death or personal injury resulting from negligence;
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
- Any liability that may not be excluded by applicable law.
Subject to the above, GDM and KiVA organizers shall not be liable for any loss of profit or indirect or consequential losses. All warranties, conditions or terms, express or implied, relating to the Prize are excluded, except any standard manufacturer’s warranty.
